A Christmas show and tell with the advisers of Sovereign Wealth Partners.

Steve Thaxter

Three generations of Thaxter’s together for Christmas.

What’s happening over the holidays?

My Dad’s visiting from the UK, so instead of going away we’ll be kicking back at home.  Christmas day will be party hats and all the trimmings.  My wife will want to put the fire on to complete the picture.

What’ll you be reading?

Quiet by Susan Cain.  It’s not fashionable but at least a third of us are introverts.

Favourite podcast?

Masters in Business – get to know the titans of the investment world.

What’s caught your eye recently?

I’m a raving fan of Ray Dalio, and this little video deserves to go viral!

Jeffrey Wrightson

Senior school graduation of our twins. Never thought they would make it, and at times I wondered if Jane and I would ever survive bringing up four children.

What’s happening over the holidays?

We will be hosting a Christmas dinner at our home with my mother; my brother and his family; our four children and two of their boyfriends – 16 all up and the noise to go with it!

Looking forward to my mother bringing her traditional English Christmas pudding where we pour brandy over it and light it, her trifle and rum balls.

After that the next few days will be spent using a chainsaw and mulcher to clean up the numerous large trees felled in the storm a few weeks ago.

What’ll you be reading?

I will be reading “What the foot”. A game changing philosophy of human movement. After a back injury and now a foot injury that has derailed my athletics competition season, I need to find answers.

Favourite podcast?

Speaking of game changing; after altering my diet following watching the Game Changers I am now listening to a podcast on an alternative opinion to adopting a plant based diet advocated by the movie.

Highlight of 2019?

Passing the Ethics and Professionalism in Financial Advice post grad subject in December. The pressure was intense from my two youngest children after spending months trying to get them to knuckle down for their HSC exams. I managed to show them that their Dad still has what it takes.

The real winners on Christmas day

What’s happening over the holidays?

What aren’t we doing? Starts with my wife Zoe singing in her choir at St Mary’s in North Sydney on Friday night followed by Sunday with her family at her brother’s place. Then it’s all hands-on deck for a hectic day hosting the family at my place. The full palaver including a traditional Christmas meal too hot for the local climate capped by my signature dish: the cherry bombe. Then catching up with my good friends, The Ritchies, at the Sydney cricket test and a few weeks up at Forster Tuncurry where the early fires have burned out significant areas of land. The delight of the season is really seeing the excitement of the children in the build-up to Christmas and the fun with cousins and friends.

What’ll you be reading?

Uncommitted. I’ve got quite a few books making me feel guilty but my ambition is the biographies of Paul Keating and John Howard. Love the or hate them, they were giants of Australian politics and I’m keen to see the contrast of their perspectives of the same events. That or some pulp fiction.

Favourite podcast?

I’m not that into podcasts but I’m partial to a zombie apocalypse movie. But seriously I did listen to “Who the hell is Hamish?”, a fascinating story of an Australian narcissistic conman who for two decades wooed women and scammed people on three continents out of tens of millions of dollars before finally being caught. He was sentenced earlier this year.

What’s caught your eye recently?

The end of negative interest rates in Europe…..maybe. And what this might mean. Link to the article… sorry to be so dull.

Nina Kazmierczak

When the old plum tree blooms, the entire world blooms- Poland this year.

What’s happening over the holidays?

Being Polish, we celebrate Christmas Eve. This Christmas Eve I’ll be with my family in Sydney before jetting across to Adelaide for Christmas Day and some r’n’r with my mister’s family.

NYE will be met back in Sydney.

What will I be reading/listening to?

I’m a huge fan of listening as I can enjoy it more freely than having my head stuck in a book. I’ve recently finished a series and have “Pieces of Us” lined up next. A very girly girl romantic tale of love and heartarche. Easy cheesy holiday listening. 2020 sees Jocko Willink- Extreme Ownership already lined up in my audible library.

What do I do when I’m not working?

Currently I’m training for my first triathlon in March 2020. I wanted to do something that would challenge and scare me. It’s the bike that scares me and the 4hr+ event that will challenge me.

Highlight of 2019?

Holidays!. I love experiencing new cultures and places. Since the ripe ole’ age of 18, I vowed to see or experience something new every year. This year, in addition to visiting family in Poland, I got a snippet of Japan…. AMAZING!!.
